Bibles for Reading |
Psalms 1:1-3 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither-- whatever they do prospers.
If you’re new to the habit of Bible reading, you might want to use a modern language translation like the New International Version or and easy to read translation like the New Readers International
Version, the Easy-To-Read Version, or the Contemporary English Version.
If you’ve read the Bible a lot, you might want to try reading a different version than one you have used before.
The New King James, New Revised Standard Version, New American Standard Version, New International Version or English Standard Version are all high quality modern translations.
While not great for in-depth study, even a paraphrase like the New Living Bible or the Message might give you new insights.

Bibles for Listening |
Nehemiah 8:2-3 So on the first day of the seventh month Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, which was made up of men and women and all who were able to understand. 3
He read it aloud from daybreak till noon as he faced the square before the Water Gate in the presence of the men, women and others who could understand. And all the people listened attentively
to the Book of the Law.
You might want to use an audio Bible to listen to some or all of the passages, instead of reading. Some people find that they notice things when they listen that they
miss when they read, and vice versa. It is great way to redeem the time of a commute to work.
Websites like Bible Gateway at http://www.biblegateway.com/resources/audio
read and produced recordings of every book of the Bible to listen to online.
You can download a free audio recording of the entire KJV in MP3 to play on iPods or other MP3 players at http://www.freeaudiobible.net/
Several like http://www.dealoz.com/index.pl?cat=book can help you find the lowest prices. Mardel’s bookstore offers CD sets as well, though they tend to be pricier.

Getting the Bible Habit |
Joshua 1:8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Like any other habit, it takes about 30 days for your brain to get the idea that you want this to be a habit. Habit formation happens fastest when you have a normal time each day set aside for the Bible. Even if you can’t set aside the same time every day, start each day with a plan about when and where you will give time to the Bible.
